Breaking with Tradition

Diminishing True Sacrifice

Veterans’ groups, constitutional scholars, and ordinary citizens are already asking: if this can be done for Charlie Kirk, who else might qualify the next time politics demands a spectacle?
The Real Cost of Political Symbolism
What should have been a moment of somber reflection risks becoming another wedge in America’s culture wars. Instead of uniting Americans in grief, the president’s order has further divided them. Flags lowered in solemnity now flutter as partisan banners — a misuse that weakens their symbolic power.
In the end, the assassination of Charlie Kirk, tragic as it is, does not rise to the level of national loss that merits the lowering of all U.S. flags. President Trump’s decision is less a tribute than a troubling sign of how even America’s most sacred traditions are being exploited for political theater.
