Netanyahu’s Desperation: Clinging to Trump as the World Recognizes Palestine

By Rob McConnell - TWATNews.com Investigative Desk – Tuesday, September 23, 2025

As the international tide turns toward recognizing the State of Palestine, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reacted with his usual blend of fear-mongering and political desperation. While countries across Europe, the Commonwealth, and beyond move to acknowledge Palestinian sovereignty, Netanyahu has doubled down on hardline rhetoric—reminding the world not only of his refusal to accept reality but also of his dependence on the United States and President Donald Trump to maintain Israel’s increasingly isolated position.

Out of Step With the World

Netanyahu’s response to the wave of global recognition was predictable: outright rejection. His declaration that a Palestinian state will “never” be established west of the Jordan River was not the voice of a statesman guiding his nation toward peace but the voice of an ideologue terrified of losing his grip on power. Instead of acknowledging the legitimacy of Palestinian aspirations, he delivered a speech brimming with hostility, dismissing decades of international consensus and putting Israel even more at odds with its allies.

Leaning on Trump, Ignoring Reality

Perhaps most telling was Netanyahu’s insistence that Israel needs the United States—and by extension, Donald Trump—to shield it from the consequences of global opinion. In doing so, Netanyahu has tethered his nation’s credibility to a U.S. president who is himself unraveling on the world stage. Far from projecting strength, Netanyahu’s remarks revealed weakness: a leader so desperate for cover that he clings to Trump like a political life raft, even as America’s reputation erodes under Trump’s belligerence.

A Strategy of Isolation

Netanyahu’s pattern has become painfully clear. When faced with legitimate criticism or meaningful diplomatic action, he lashes out, deflects blame, and leans on Washington’s veto power at the United Nations. This short-term survival tactic may play well with his domestic base, but it leaves Israel increasingly isolated. The rest of the world is moving toward recognizing Palestinian rights; Netanyahu is moving in the opposite direction, dragging Trump and America with him.

Conclusion

In the wake of the global community’s recognition of Palestine, Netanyahu’s response has been one of denial, defiance, and dependency. His reliance on Trump underscores just how out of touch he has become—not only with the international community but with the future of peace in the region. History will not remember Netanyahu as a peacemaker or visionary. It will remember him as a man who clung to Trump, rejected reality, and squandered Israel’s opportunity to stand on the right side of history.
