Trump’s Distraction Playbook: Targeting Enemies While Ignoring Real Crises

By Rob McConnell – TWATNews.com Friday, September 26, 2025

President Donald Trump is once again wielding the power of his office not to address the crises facing America and the world, but to settle political scores. His latest crusade against perceived enemies has consumed headlines, creating a convenient smokescreen that diverts public attention away from matters far more urgent and damaging: the sealed Epstein files, the bloody war in Ukraine, and Benjamin Netanyahu’s escalating brutality in Gaza.

The Art of Distraction

Trump’s obsession with publicly humiliating and prosecuting political opponents has become a spectacle, drawing media coverage like a magnet. But behind this theater lies a calculated distraction. Instead of answering questions about his administration’s failure to release the Epstein files—or acknowledging what they could reveal about the powerful friends he once kept—Trump keeps the press focused on his vendetta politics.

Meanwhile, Ukrainians continue to fight for their survival in a war that shows no signs of ending, and the United States’ role in supporting or abandoning them is buried under Trump’s endless soundbites. His administration avoids accountability for its chaotic foreign policy, while the people of Ukraine pay the price.

Netanyahu’s Gaza Crisis

At the same time, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces growing global condemnation for his campaign in Gaza. Entire neighborhoods lie in ruins, civilians endure unbearable suffering, and human rights organizations accuse his government of war crimes. Instead of confronting these humanitarian disasters or offering real leadership, Trump provides cover—distracting American attention away from atrocities committed by an ally.

This week, Netanyahu added to the global embarrassment with a disastrous speech at the United Nations. His tone-deaf rhetoric and hollow justifications made him an international laughingstock, further isolating Israel on the world stage. Yet, thanks to Trump’s relentless targeting of enemies at home, that spectacle is buried under headlines about political prosecutions.

A Dangerous Shell Game

The pattern is clear: Trump’s strategy is not leadership, but misdirection. By turning his political rivals into enemies of the state, he ensures the public debates his theatrics rather than demanding answers about systemic corruption, foreign wars, or international scandals.

It is the classic authoritarian playbook—create enemies, demand loyalty, and keep the nation distracted while the real crimes and crises remain unaddressed.

The question Americans must now ask is simple: how much longer will the country tolerate being distracted by one man’s vendettas while the world burns?
