TRUMP’S 51st STATE FANTASY: CANADA IN HIS CROSSHAIRS AGAIN

By Rob McConnell | TWATNews.com International Desk | September 30, 2025

Quantico, Virginia – The world watched in disbelief this today as Donald Trump addressed a gathering of U.S. admirals and generals at Quantico, delivering yet another bizarre, political, and inflammatory speech. Among the rambling boasts and veiled threats, one line set off alarm bells across Canada: Trump claimed Canada wanted in on a so-called “Golden Dome” plan and bragged that he had told Canadian officials – reportedly referencing Mark Carney – that if Canada “becomes the 51st state, it would cost nothing.”

Trump’s words were not a slip of the tongue. They were a window into his obsession with annexing Canada – an obsession he has never truly abandoned. His remarks also raise serious national-security questions: is Trump’s “new military” part of a long-term plan to subjugate Canada under the Stars and Stripes?

A War-Monger’s Dream

For decades, Trump has cultivated a persona of dominance and brinkmanship, whether in business, politics or international affairs. But his fixation on Canada – our resources, our territory, our sovereignty – has grown more explicit since Trump 2.0. The “Golden Dome” reference sounds like a defensive shield but, in Trump’s mouth, it becomes a rhetorical battering ram aimed at our borders.

Even more disturbing is his casual suggestion that Canada could be absorbed by the United States without cost. To Trump, our confederation, our heritage and our autonomy are mere bargaining chips in his quest for imperial grandeur.

A Nation at Risk

Let’s be brutally honest: Canada does not currently have the military strength to repel a full-scale invasion by the U.S. Armed Forces. Our leadership is fragmented, our defense spending is anemic and our public – lulled by decades of peaceful coexistence – is unprepared for the possibility of a hostile takeover from our closest neighbour. Trump knows this. His generals know this. And his followers, emboldened by his rhetoric, see Canada not as a friend but as a prize.

Time to Wake Up, Canada

This is not a drill. Trump’s speech at Quantico must be a wake-up call to every Canadian. He is not joking. He is not bluffing. He is a war-monger openly fantasizing about our annexation, and he is reorganizing the U.S. military under his influence to make it happen.

If we do not confront this threat now – by demanding stronger leadership, shoring up our defenses, and forging alliances with nations that respect our sovereignty – we may find ourselves the next Ukraine, only with the invader wearing a red tie instead of a red star.

The Takeaway

Trump’s dream of making Canada his 51st state is alive and well. Canadians must treat it as the existential threat it is. Our future as a free nation depends on it.
